What laptop do you use btw? XPS studio or whatever, those laptops look pretty good. Some can have some pretty cool features. Like I think latitudes, or one of those brands has a finger print reader built into it.  This laptop, for gaming is amazing - http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade  I can vouch for core i3 3rd gen laptops. They are really good. Quad core amd laptops are alright too. Pretty good for the money now a days, like 300-450$. i5 is better though ofc.  Netbooks, are really really stupid. All you're paying for it seems is Windows 7. I mean you might as well get linux only on it. Which afaik no1 offers anymore. I got one for $220 from Sears just for kicks, and just didn't seem worth it to me (christmas present). I remember DELL at one time offered it. Which amazed me, I asked their customer support though and its gone now.  If they sold them for like $100 preinstalled with linux, it would be amazing. Built in music, office, printer, and other support with linux wouldn't be that hard to implement. All you would be missing is the ability to run EXE's. But heck for $75+ less, I already have 2 windows 7 discs laying around somewhere...  In my experience buying laptops, I have bought like 4 laptops in the past 4 years maybe, and have looked at a lot of laptops. Get one that has a recent processor, graphics card optional but usually they bundle them good now. MAKE sure you get one from a good source, 3hr+ battery life is good, try to get one that is under like 4 lbs.  Do not leave the charger on the laptop when you are not around. You can fry the battery, and possibly damage other things. This happened to my moms computer. It's strong enough for almost every developer application I can think of. Â The problem with the Linux-preinstalled computers was that a lot of people didn't look at the OS in the specifications. So they expected a Win computer and got Linux with it. Most of them are not advanced enough to be able to run a Win installation, so Dell halted the project after loads of (unnecessary) complaints.  FHannes Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 I'm jelly  Also a pretty buffed nvidia gfx card with 2gb of dedicated ram and optimus techology, the just 6-cell battery easily lasts 4-4.5h on powersave mode Best laptop I ever owned. Was also fairly inexpensive because I bought it though the university where I study. Â I bought a i7 2,3 ghz Hyperthreading, 8gb ram, 180gb ssd, 7970m. Â The switchable gfx driver is bugged so the 7970m only get's up to about 60-70%. Â Ahaha, I have, lets see. 2 Dell computers. I never bought a laptop from them though. But I did buy from them this time. They have a $200 free giftcard deal. So I bought this with i7-3770 - here. I'm going to wait another year or two before I consider getting a laptop. They change a lot more than desktops do over the years. Â So the total was about $886, I wanted the one with the i5 processor. But whatever. Free $200 is good. I can't use it though. My dad will blow it on something. I think it wasn't too bad of a price, comes with a graphics card. Maybe I could've gotten a better deal with something else, but idc. It has a new graphics card, and I think it has an extra slot so I can put the one I have now in it. 8gigs of memory. Â This might've been a better deal here.
